Whooo's at school?
21 January 2012

WARNING!!! I am not an artist, the pictures you are about to see may be offensive to the eye ;)

I have finally (after much procrastination) started to get things ready for the new school year. One of the first things I have began to work on is creating a name recognition/ school arrival chart. Using the owls from this resource I have assigned each student their own owl. I then painted a "tree" onto a large canvas. There are 20 velcro spots on the tree - one for each owl. The plan is that each morning the students will find their owl and place it onto the tree. At the end of the day one student will be chosen to remove the owls from the tree and place them back into the nest (brown basket).

Here are some photos...

First I worked out how many branches I would need...

This is the stage where I wanted to abort the mission! The finished product! Much better than first anticipated.

Assessment! Assessment! Assessment!
19 January 2012

We don't know about you, but in our classrooms paperwork has a nasty way of breeding overnight! It is also never where we left it or handy when we need it! To combat this dilemma we have created an assessment overview which can be used to collate all your assessment data in one handy spot.

This is the first year we will be trialling it in a Kindergarten room (4 years old), at this stage the plan is to use the same sheet all year and each time we assess throughout the year we will mark it using a different coloured pen. This should assist in showcasing the students improvement throughout the year.

Do you have any great hints on controlling the paperwork monster? We would love to hear from you! Share your ideas with us via our Facebook page.

Picture perfect
17 January 2012

Looking for a cute way to commemorate the first day at school? Why not take a photo of your kiddies holding one of these signs? Children change so much over the course of the year, this will provide a keepsake that the parents (and kids!) will love to look back on.

The first sign is relatively pain free to use – print, hold, click!

The second one requires each student to think about what they want to do when they grow up. It’s a little more “personal” than the first sign, but will need some time dedicated to creating an individual sign for each child. If you are thinking of using this sign then maybe you might like to set it as a morning task for parents to complete with their child when they drop them off at school?

We have signs for kindergarten, prep, pre school, pre-primary and school. If you require a different year level contact us via the facebook page and we will endeavour to create it for you.

At the end of the school year we plan on printing these photos out and taking a new photo of each child holding their first day of school photo. We will post these at the end of the year for you to see, it should make for a great comparison!

We hope your preparations for the new school year are moving along!
