Simplify Your Semester 1 Assessments: Our Top Report Writing Tips

It’s almost that time of year again! Are you ready for assessment season? 👀

Your Semester 1 reports don’t have to be a source of panic and stress when you take advantage of our huge range of supporting resources. From editable activities and rubrics to cut-and-paste report comment banks, we’ve taken the load off your assessments so you can focus on your students and families!

Read on for our top tips for finding what you need, assessing with ease and simplifying your report writing ⭐️

Need a little help navigating the new webby to find what you’re looking for? No worries! We’ve got you covered 😎

💛 Finding Our Assessments: From our Home page, the Resources tab helpfully sorts all our available downloads into handy categories to help you find what you need. The Planning and Assessments tab is your first stop, containing all our assessment resources for every subject from Early Years to Year 6.

💛 Filtering It Down: Use the filters in the left-hand-side bar to navigate to exactly what you need.

Filter by year level, subject area, topic, resource type and more!

💛 Use the Tags: Look for tags on individual resources that tell you more about their usability 🔍 Editable resources allow you to change various elements of the resource such as text and questions, while State Fonts resources are available for individual download in all standard Australian state fonts.

Assessing in the early years can be incredibly challenging! When students learn best through hands-on, play-based activities, it can make it really tough to obtain paper-based evidence for reporting. Check out some of our favourite TT resources for simplifying assessing in the early years!

💛 Number Collector Assessment: Numbers 1-5: This activity is the perfect hands-on assessment to engage your students and assess their understanding of numbers 1-5. You can also develop their fine motor skills through cutting and pasting! Use physical manipulatives like counters, dice, popsticks and toys to turn this into a fun workstation or to extend your fast finishers.

💛 Teacher Word Lists PACKAGE: This Science of Reading-based assessment package features word lists for each major phonics sound. Use for assessing reading, blending and segmenting, spelling, sentence creation and more!

💛 History Assessment Foundation: My Favourite Celebration: Did you know that many of our unit plans contain pre-made assessment tasks complete with lesson plans, recording sheets, rubrics and more? Many of these assessments, including this My Favourite Celebration task, can be completed independently of the unit and have been uploaded to the webby as standalone resources to make it even easier for you to knock out your end of semester reporting!

Our Maths assessments are one of our most popular resources for a reason! Available for all six strands of the V9 Mathematics Australian Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6, these sets are kitted out with everything you could need to make your maths reporting an absolute breeze 🌬️

💛 Rubrics: Our editable rubrics feature ‘I Can’ statements based on the achievement standard for each year level. These statements are broken down into three levels: working towards, at standard and working beyond. Use to track individual and whole class progress, as a student reference point when checking for understanding or as a self-assessment.

💛 Tracking Tables: These tracking tables use the ‘I Can’ statements from the ‘at standard’ section of the rubrics in a simplified format. These tables are designed for students to use to easily track their progress throughout the year. As these tables are editable, you can change the statements to suit individual students. Simply highlight each box as the skill is achieved!

💛 Semester 1 Assessments: Need a quick-grab assessment to check for student understanding of each topic? These packs contain two-page assessments for each major topic in each year level and curriculum strand. Many of the elements are editable, allowing you to alter the assessments as needed. Plus, if you need to simplify things, you can just remove the second page of the assessment, as each one gradually increases in challenge and complexity!

💛 Check-In POWERPOINT, Flashcards & Recording Sheets (F/1 Only): Perfect for a whole class or 1-to-1 setting, use either the PowerPoint or the matching flashcards to review each statement from the tracking table. The recording sheets are designed to align directly with the skills reviewed in the PowerPoint and come in multiple options with varying levels of editability, so you can customise them to best suit your needs.
