Task 1 ~ For this task students will select their own measurement tool (this could be counters, popsticks, pencils, dominoes etc).
They will then choose 4 different items from around the room to estimate and then measure.
Task 2 ~ Using string/wool measure each student, this will become their own informal unit of measurement (hint add a photo of each child to the end of their wool so that you know whose is who and for display purposes!).
The students will then take their measurement tool around the classroom and use it to find things which are smaller than them, and things which are bigger than them.
These items are then drawn into the corresponding box.
Once the students have finished measuring around the room with their wool they can be used to create a class display with the addition of the sign ‘Look how tall we are!’
